Abstract

Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel SurabayaEntrepreneurial ventures increasingly operate under persistent environmental turbulence characterised by technological disruption, market volatility, institutional uncertainty, and evolving stakeholder expectations. Although prior research has advanced understanding of organisational resilience, dynamic capabilities, entrepreneurial learning, and venture adaptation, these perspectives remain theoretically fragmented and provide limited explanation of how entrepreneurial ventures transform environmental adversity into sustainable growth. This conceptual paper addresses this gap by developing a middle-range theory that reconceptualises entrepreneurial resilience as a venture adaptation capability operating under conditions of sustained environmental turbulence. Through an integrative conceptual synthesis of resilience theory, dynamic capability theory, organisational learning, and entrepreneurial action, the proposed framework explains a sequential adaptation mechanism in which entrepreneurial resilience activates adaptive learning, facilitates strategic reconfiguration, and ultimately enables sustainable venture growth. The theory further identifies resource availability, entrepreneurial experience, stakeholder engagement, and institutional support as boundary conditions influencing the effectiveness of resilience-driven adaptation. By positioning entrepreneurial resilience as the central explanatory mechanism linking environmental turbulence to long-term venture development, the proposed model extends existing entrepreneurship and strategic management literature while providing a coherent foundation for future conceptual refinement and empirical validation.
