Abstract

This editorial synthesizes emerging scholarship that examines the growing tension between character-centered educational purposes and the expanding influence of competition within contemporary scouting. Collectively, the contributions reveal how performance-oriented cultures, social comparison, institutional pressures, and achievement-focused evaluation may reshape educational priorities. At the same time, they offer new conceptual pathways for preserving character formation, brotherhood, self-development, and mission integrity as the foundational purposes of scouting education.
